Legal hot shots aim to be ice cool at Cardiff's Winter Wonderland

By: Cardiff County Council

A group of legal eagles will be taking to the ice when Cardiff's Winter Wonderland returns to the city for a sixth year in 2006.

Law firm Eversheds, based at Callaghan Square in Cardiff,  have got their skates on to  be the first corporate group to book their ice time at the bmibaby open-air ice rink.

Following the success of their visit to Cardiff's Winter Wonderland last year, the solicitors are the first in the queue to guarantee their exclusive use of the ice on Thursday December 14 between 7pm and 8pm.

Solicitor Catrin Macarthy said: "We skated at Cardiff's Winter Wonderland last year and it proved a great success with staff and their family and friends. The trip is one of a whole host of social activities that the firm arranges for its employees throughout the year and we have lots of festivities going on in December.

"Around 100 people will be skating again this year and we've decided to take up the offer of a skating instructor to help some of us out a bit."

Cardiff's Winter Wonderland returns to the beautiful Civic Centre between November 16 and January 7.  Voted  the best regional open-air ice rink in the UK with over a quarter of a million skaters having taken to the ice in the past five years, corporate booking opportunities are available and coaching can be arranged for skaters if needed.
Cardiff's Winter Wonderland is the capital's essential winter experience. The rink is the main focus for skaters and spectators but there are also plenty of other family attractions including ice café bar, heated terrace overlooking the ice, traditional children's carousel and rides, Big Wheel and free festive entertainment.

Santa's Grotto is a new attraction at Cardiff's Winter Wonderland this year. The grotto is a 30ft tree-shaped structure, open from November 16 to Christmas Eve, where children and families can visit the man himself and receive a small gift. Entry charge £5.50 per child.

Cardiff Council's Executive Member for Leisure, Culture and Sport, Nigel Howells, said: "Cardiff's Winter Wonderland corporate booking opportunities give companies exclusive use of the ice for a skating session and is an excellent way for colleagues to enjoy the spirit of Christmas together."
