Do we really have to have these wheelie bins?

Many places in Cardiff including Llanrumney and Rhiwbina have been honoured with black (for household non-recyclable) and green bins (for green waste) for garden waste collection. Our streets look great when these bins are out on the pavement making such fun for all the Cardiff mums with pushchairs and wheelchair users to go past them. Not to mention dogs sniffing and loitering around them. There is no need to use bags in these bins, waste can be dumped straight in to the bins but don’t dare open them unless you want to faint. For recyclable waste the council has provided green bags.

Unfortunately all is not well with these amazing mobile garbage bins. Some of us are beginning to feel the pain of the new change. For example the green bins and bags are emptied every two weeks. I must confess that it irritates me by having my smelly rotten composting garden rubbish collected once every two weeks. Another interesting point, if you place your garden waste in black bags even inside the green bins, they will not be taken away. In addition, the black bins will be emptied as usual however, the bin lids must be closed and extra black bags will not be collected.

Larger families will feel the brunt however, on request they will be provided with additional bins. It would be interesting to see what the situation would be in Christmas. All bins must no be placed near the kirbs hence no more collections from the lanes will occur. Elderly or citizens that cannot wheel the bins in place can request assistance. Unfortunately the council has made a mess of delivering bins to flats including green ones. All will be removed says the council and provided with a big communal one all at the expense of the Cardiff tax payer. Cardiff county council citizens are paying ever increasing council tax with little in return.
